Tomorrow, ‘Under The Tarp’ airs on CNN. It’s a behind the scenes special, and the very last Parts Unknown episode we finished. Some never before seen footage of Tony being savagely hilarious Tony, but also in many ways this episode is a family document for us, the crew. At minimum, it’s a brief record of what we did for so many years with the most inspiring person one could hope to work with. Tom Vitale, the man who’s spent more days filming in the field with Tony than any other person, was charged with directing and @mustafabhagat with editing, and they did an incredible job during a most difficult time…a painful process having to dig up old & raw footage and interview 24 crew members so soon after. And although over the years we all often worked in rotating teams, it was moving to see everyone together for this last one… late nights in and out of the edit, giving notes, laughing, watching frames over and over, crying, and putting in so many hours and detailed care until the very last screening. There are too many people who contributed to thank here individually, but our love and gratitude to Joshua Homme for the beautiful finale track he recorded on short notice. Tony would have loved this episode. He probably would have said something like: “It doesn’t totally suck, this disasterpiece.”…Tony, we miss you everyday but your creative legacy will continue to live on through all of us.
